"There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating
the same patterns."
— Edward de Bono
Visual Art & Design:
Why do we study art? Good question! It is part of our everyday lives! From the houses we live in, the coffee cups we drink out of, the furniture we sit on, to the buildings and artworks that inspire us, art is everywhere! Our students are the next generation of artists and designers, and they need to be ready for this challenge.
In art class we practice how to think creatively, to solve art & design problems, and to look critically at our ideas and have the tools and decision making skills to make adjustments as needed. Art and design does not exist separate from the rest of the world. Artists/designers work closely with historians, scientists, writers, business people, engineers, and others to create and discover. In art class, the students not only create art, but learn how to look at, discuss, and write about art & design.
The Middle School curriculum is based on the National Art Standards. The art classes are academic courses and are graded in the same way as all the academic courses. Writing assignments, homework, tests & quizzes, in-class assignments, and work habits are all important components of this class. Please see more information under Class Outline link.
This year at LMS, students are required to do writing assignments meeting the TEEC standards for writing.
