"We are Americans...now & then"
This project integrates the social studies curriculum along with the visual arts curriculum.
7th graders are learning about early america and have been discussing the people, events, documents, and ideas that shaped the future of America.
Topics include the Boston Tea Party, Stamp Act, the Declaration of Independence, notions of freedom, self-government, and equality, Thomas Paine's Common Sense, battle of Bunker Hill, and the Bill of Rights.
In art class we have discussed these issues, along with others, and formed statments about our thoughts on the people and events of our country's beginning. Students are combining these ideas with their thoughts on what it means to be an American now. Students could focus on cultural ideas, current or historical events, values, popular culture, political issues, or a combination of topics to express their thoughts on what it means to be an American.
A written paragraph explaining the artwork will be included as part of the project. The paragraph will follow the TEEC outline that all students are familiar with at LMS.
Photos will be coming soon as we have already started sketching the final drafts of our collages.

* Write a 'sales-pitch' to sell your idea and explain why your

Large Scale Paintings
A work in progress!!
One lucky class is in the process of painting large canvases for the school auditorium! There are 6 pictures in all. Our theme is a mixture of Hollywood and the Town of Lincoln.
Here is an outline of our project:
*Students submit theme ideas for the paintings for the class to review.
*The themes are voted on by the students.
*Students work with their partners to develop sketches for the decided theme of the paintings.
*All the sketches are voted on, and students work together to ensure that the theme is being followed and the paintings are varied in subject, layout, etc.
*Students work to paint in basic shapes and colors for the pictures.
*Students learn how to use highlights, shadows, and texture in the pictures to give them a more realistic look.
The paintings will be completed prior to December vacation. Look for them in the auditorium soon!!

Learning about Color
Eleni working on the Color Comparison project.
Students reviewed how color is organized on the color wheel, and how colors can be grouped in a variety of ways (and why).
To 'show what they know' about color, students created two identical designs and colored them using two color groups which were very different from one another.
Focus of Lesson: Review color groups and how color works, and to see how color affects an image.
